Anybody ever done a homemade snorkel?

I been thinking bout the actual riggin's of a snorkel and to me it doesnt seem all that difficult. i'm thinking that for the most part (this is greatly simplified) you get a leak proof tube and tightly seal it around the top of the carb and run it up the windshield frame. maybe put a cone type filter at the top of the tube? but youd need a top for it to keep the rain and flying crap out.

this is the stupidly simple basics of the idea and i know you have to seal all wires and engine breather, etc........\
wranglers with a air box seem to be fairly cut and dry. just curious what others have done or what is out there for something that wouyld just mount to the carb.

lets have it folks.....

I think the last post missed the point. I too would like to find something to attach to a standard 5 1/8" carb. K&N makes a "plenum" that would work but it's around $200.

A man could probably get rich producing this missing link to a carbed CJ snorkel.

I just modded an air filter assembly from an early 90's GMC safari van (same size as factory assembly with 5" hole instead of 3") and butting a piece of RV crapper hose to the air filter assembly snorkel. From that point I could have ran it anywhere but, just ran it through the firewall behind the dash on the drivers side. I've never had a problem with water. (sand working into places it shouldn't be is what's been killing me).
