Any way to tell what sub-model our CJ's were

I have a hunch that my CJ was either a Laredo or Renegade, but have no way to prove it. Is their any way to take the vin and see what options my Jeep came with? I know they can tell the engine and tranny, but I want to know my model. I had a steering wheel from a Renegade, so that is my hunch.

I have never been able to tell if a CJ was a specific package unless it had a few options and was close to original. The Laredo is straight forward with seats, dash, etc. Alot of the renegades had specific packages like stickers, a tach in some, matching seats, rocker moldings. If you can find the original title, it may have it on it.
Here is a link I have, scroll thru it and see if you can find anything.

Best of luck.

The laredo trim package featured lots of chrome-the wheels, front &rear bumperettes, mirror heads and arms and grill panel. Also included in the trim package were black rocker moldings, hood insulation, indoor/outdoor carpeting, leather wrapped steering wheel and pass grab bar, covered console and a pinstriped instument panel with a laredo nameplate. The laredo also came standard with high-back bucket seats with matching rear seat.
The Renegade package was more basic with painted spoke rims, painted bumpers, a tri-tone body strip package in either blue with gold or orange with gold, and a soft-feel steering wheel. The high back seats were an option to the renegade package.
With the exception of classic black, all jeep exterior colors were new in 1980. Olympic white, Cameo tan, medium teal blue, navy blue, dark green metallic, dark brown metallic, bordeaux metallic, saxon yellow, smoke grey metallic, cardinal red, russet metallic and carmel. The laredo package was not available with med. teal blue, smoke grey met., cardinal red, dark green met., russet met. or caramel.
The Golden Eagle package was a step between the Renegade and the Laredo but I don't think it was offered for the 5s in 1980. Hope this helps.mudlust.

Yeah, I wish it did. The ONLY thing that I had that was distinguishable was the fact that I had the rally steering wheel. My tube has been replaced, and the Jeep had 0 in it other than the column when I got it.

unless you know who bought it, or have a build sheet, no.

anything that came in a package could be ordered or installed after the fact, and the tags/numbers on a Jeep don't reference packages

I've always claimed I have a base model and no one has ever accused me of exaggerating.
