Another "How much is it worth thread"

Sorry to do this to the group ,but I would like the experts opinions on this one.

I've decided to sell my 85 CJ5 and would like this groups opinion on what you all think a fair asking price would be. I think the pics show pretty good detail what has been done to it. It has a stock 258 engine with a HEI upgrade and one piece axels. The engine was rebuilt approximately 3 years ago, or ~2500 miles. Also has a 2.5" suspension lift with 33's that have >75% tread. I did all of the work, engine, body, paint, disassembly, assembly etc. It does have a new Whitco top that could be sold with it although the Whitco top would increase the price accordingly.
I live in the Houston, TX. area. I know CJ prices vary greatly, depending on which part of the country they're in.
So, let me know what you all think would be a fair asking price.

I'll be in Houston this evening, how about 1500$?

um, that is nice. I'm not really good at pricing "nice" in our area, but my number would be around 10k.

Sure looks nice!
As always you need to find the right buyer, but in AL it would bring 8-10K. IMHO.

Do people really pay upwards of 10 G's for a cj? I mean a scrambler sure. But a cj?

Whoa Hoss- Am I being evicted from the forum? I still have a lot, or at least some Jeep parts in the attic above the garage. (no they're not for sale) I will build another in a bit. The next one will be less pretty and more trail worthy. I'll need the parts in the attic for that build. You can't just throw me out like that. You all are the only ones who understand the addiction.

Not to play the semantics card or anything, but a Scrambler is a CJ - it's a CJ8. And yes, depending on the area and the mods done to the Jeep. I've seen CJs going for 25K-35K but they were all tricked out custom rigs.

I'm going to have to say $10-12k in my area. I've seen stuff in a little worse condition than yours sell for $12k at a dealer that specializes in Jeeps near me, but given the times right now I would say in the ballpark of $10-12k.

1986 Jeep CJ7 4.2L I6 T176 (restoration in progress)
1961 Willys 4x4 Wagon L-226 I6 T90 (restoration also in progress)

Yes I understand that a scrambler is a CJ8. Thank you though! LOL

No I'm just saying why pay 15 grand for one when you can find em for 2000 around and restore yourself. While you may spend more then 15 restoring (depending on how tricked out you want to make it) at least you know its done to your spec CJ7's and 5's are everywhere.

But I suppose some have money to burn, no time to build or just arent very wrench handy. Okay I see where you guys are coming from .

Seems that Texas is keeping the value of CJs up all by themselves. Between Austin Jeeps and Collins "price gouging" Brothers, they have the market cornered on way too high pricing.
