Another CJ7-TH400 quit pulling

I have a 79 CJ with quadratrac that has a part-time kit and lockouts that quit pulling at less than 3 mph on flat land while turning around . I know my chain has been stretched so I have been taking it easy to make it last until I could fix it as I have not been able to work on it for 8 months now because of colon cancer that ruptured . my question to those that may know is can the chain break without busting the case at low speeds? P.S. low range is not in neutral, and it rolls in park with hubs locked when pushed.

If the chain is broke you would t even get 3 MPH. If it's stretched it would move, and you hear it ratcheting past the gears.

What happens if you put it in "E" or 4x4 mode?

I wasn't clear , when it broke I was less than 3mph but then it wouldn't move at all afterwards. After being towed home it would roll while in park and low gear engaged. That's why I think it has a broken chain

I think your next step is to drain the oil from the main case, see if you can see the chain lying in the bottom, thru the drain hole.

There's an inspection hole on the bottom of the QT used to measure chain tightness (or the absence thereof), also.

Hard to say. You still need to drain it or you'll get an eyeful.
