Another 79 CJ with 94'AX15 question (about bolts this time)
I'm having issues with the (seemingly) easiest part of this switch - bolts. I've searched around several different parts manuals but am still having issues.
I have a YJ with a 79 - 258 in it. I had an earlier AX15 with the internal slave and blew it out so I thought I'd be clever and install a 94 bellhousing with the external slave setup.
Ok, so on to my questions:
What size bolts are used to go from the inspection plate into the bellhousing? I recognize that the captured bolts (going into their own nuts) can be reused from my previous bellhousing. But there are 3 others. One at Bottom Dead Center (6 o'clock) and two more at 2 and 10 o'clock. What are the sizes of these 3 bolts. The Parts manual says they are M8x2.12x16mm which sounds like anarchy to me. You can see a picture here (part 15) http://autopartmaster.com/en/?action...5&id_pic=29297
Second, I've tried to reuse the clutch inspection plate/spacer from my previous ax15 setup. It looks like it is just slightly different than what the new housing needs. "slightly" as in I can get the two side block bolts to match up and pull the transmission in tight, but the top bolts can't make it in. It looks like perhaps the housing or inspection plate is off by a fraction of an inch. I've tried every which way to move the transmission around to allow the top bolts to go back in, but there is a 10th of an inch offset that isn't letting me. Do I just need to struggle with moving the jack around to get them to line up or do I have to pull this damn transmission out to drill these holes?
