AMC Jeep CJ, AM/FM/CB stereo radio / Educate me please

The knob shaft for tuning is broken off the stock radio in my CJ.

I would like to keep a stock radio.

I was thinking that while I was at it I would replace it with the AM/FM/CB radio (not that I will ever use the CB). I just thought that while I was at it I would do this stock upgrade.

Here is one for $349
http://www.ebay.com/itm/250935132002...84.m1439.l2649

Just an NOS Knob is $100.00, and that does not fix the shaft.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jeep-NOS-AMC...item2c606e5dcc

Starting bid on a nice stock AM/FM radio is 125.

Will the AM/FM/CB fit into the dash of a Jeep with just AM/FM without modifying the dash?

Does it take a special antenna or does the matching splitter allow it to work with a stock antenna?

Any other considerations?

Glenn, I had a very bad experience with the seller of that knob on eBay. He will not respond to your emails, if you have any problems or questions. I bought a seat slider from him, and it was missing the spring loaded metal retainer. I emailed him several times and never received a response. I finally went through PayPal and filed a dispute, to which he never responded and I got my money back.

I saw the same auction for both of the NOS knobs; no f'ing way would I bend over and pay that much for a piece of plastic, I don't care how "rare" they are.

Just my $.02, and if I can save you the headache then great.

Fred,
I would not pay that much for a knob either. I not building a show vehicle but a daily driver. I just put that there to put some prices and options up. When someone has a 98.4 % feadback you have to start to question them. The other clue are (NOS "Condition: Used: An item that has been used previously. The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully) and (Returns: No returns or exchanges, ) I always offer 7 day return, but do not pay or refund shipping

The AM/FM/CB will fit in place of the AM/FM. They are a standardized format.

My question is, why not grab a stock AM/FM out of an 80's Custom Deluxe or Silverado? $5 at a pic-n-pull and you're golden. If I remember rightly AMC used AC Delco for their radios, which is exactly what I had for the AM radio in my Chevy in Minnesota...

That would make sense, but I rarely do, I just thought it would be a little unusual. We have no pic-n-pulls here, wish we did.

Oh, trust me, I understand. I had an Oldsmobile Cutlass with the stock original AM/FM/CB in it. Wish I still had that radio.

My CJ doesn't even HAVE a radio or a place to put one! And I'm not cutting one, either. If I ever do put tunes in it, it'll be a small amp in the tool compartment, a pair of bookshelf stereo speakers and my iPod...

Big AMC site, not really Jeeps, Javelins, Gremlins, etc. He has new radios that are supposed to look like 70s AMC radios. Theyre am-fm-cassette with iPod input jack. I think they're around 90 bucks.

They are an interesting purchase, will fit into an uncut CJ dash as they have two shafts which is hard to find nowadays. They are also analogue so none of those groovy LED /LCD displays flashing away.

Apart from that the only AMC thing about them is the sticker applied to the front.

It's a shame that the '76 is one of those oddball years that uses the uber slim radio

Here is the ebay link http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Jeep-rad...#ht_500wt_1069

Might get this...just need to decide if I want to "tune" in the station every time as it does not seem to have a preset option.
