I am planning on servicing my rear diff because it has started to seep and who knows how long its been since it was serviced. Is there anything special I need to know before doing this? I have heard that limited slips differentials need some sort of special additive but I am not sure. Also, can I use brake cleaner clean it up before I slap a new gasket on it and bolt it back together? According to the stamp it is a 4.10 gears with TracLok.
Yes , you need a little bit of "Friction Modifier" You can pick it up at any automotive store.
I had a traclok diff I pulled off of one jeep and I figured the clutches were all shot but I put in some "friction Modifier" and it worked just great afterwards.
Well it worked until I spun the hub off the axle. ...
Yes, you can definately use brake cleaner - it does awesome for that. I don't know if you should spray it on your friction disc things though.
