Aluminum Scrambler build

After years of wanting a CJ8 and trying to buy one locally also on ebay that was already done and have seen driving around town for a few years I placed several bids and I was the top bidder but I didn't hit the reserve. Turned out when I contacted the guy he wanted 25k and I was at 16k and we couldn't make a deal we were too far apart so a couple weeks later I gave in on a whim and well I bought this one that needed lots of work on ebay in Oct. 2011 and had it shipped from Virginia
Pictures from ebay listing

It looked pretty solid just surface rust for the most part...so I thought. Pictures can be deceiving. I saw some holes but nothing I thought couldn't be patched.
It arrived at 9pm so here is some pictures of it the next day.

Tub put on for the first time

Starting to come back together

This is where I am now. I obviously left out a million pictures or forgot to take them like the fixing the body mounts stripping the frame a second time to redo it again since I wasn't happy with it but I wanted this thread to be more about the build since putting the Aluminum tub on since all of the work I did previously has been over the last year and a half. I have had some big breaks working and had to make tough decisions on replacing the original tub and spending what seems to be a never ending amount of money the last 2 months. At this point I'm about 3k over my original budget and probably have 5k or more to go. Definitely won't recoup the money but I don't ever plan on selling so it doesn't matter.

Some basic Jeep specs
Chevy 350, Dana 300 Twinstick, 350 trans
Ford 9 inch w/limited slip
Dana 30 it will have a Eaton Elocker and 4.10s once I install them soon.
Aqualu Industries CJ8 Tub
Re 4.5
JKS 1.25 Body Lift
Will most likely roll on 35s maybe bigger but currently on 33's

Once I get all the body parts on and mock it up I will take all the steel off and blast paint and prime it. My plan for now is to Polish the tub and paint the hood fenders windshield frame doors silver but I am considering painting the entire thing too. Not really a "chrome" guy but I've seen some really cool polished aluminum Jeeps. It would definitely be cheaper to polish it then paint it. Will see when I get closer to that stage in the next few months.

I will have both the half cab hardtop and a full soft top and seating for 6.

Thanks!

So far the body seems perfect. I had and still have a ton of holes to drill but if anyone is looking to buy a new tub and don't care if its 100 percent original these aluminum tubs are a far superior product quality wise. The aluminum is much thicker than the steel and seems much more substantial.

I'm looking to go this route one day with my 73 '5 to get rid of those wood-filled hat channel floor supports that hold moisture and rot from the inside out. I'm following along.

Personally, I'd prep and paint the aluminum instead of polishing it and trying to match the fenders and hood with silver paint.

Well not a ton of progress yesterday but I did get all the holes drilled and bolted the fenders on and drilled and installed the hood. Its so scary drilling into my brand new aluminum tub. Got check and recheck a hundred times before you can do it.

The aftermarket Hood and fender fits but its just a tad off and that drives me nuts. I just couldn't wait any longer to find a good hood and fender here in the rust belt.

Couple pics

I did find a few problems yesterday. I need to remove the lip on the edges of the dashboard as the don't quite fit the new tub and I discovered this Jeep sits really high and due to the height and the garage door I'm not sure if I can fit anything larger than 33's so I'm probably going to pull the JKS body lift. I'll see what happens when I get the windshield frame on which is next.

This weekends progress...Got the windshield on. I know its not much progress but laying it out and drilling the holes in the tub to bolt it down is one of those thing you need to check a 1000 times before you drill.
