alternator suggestions...

well i have to replace it. so what do you guys recomend. i will eventually have a light bar with about 4 lights not sure what kind or how powerful. so will i a factory one be enough or should i upgrade? i saw the "green" alternator but there is no way im spending 300 bucks on it. are there any other options? i have a 79 cj with a 304

Your stock alternator on your 304 is 35 amps - not enough, for sure! The most cost effective way to upgrade is by using a stock alternator for a Grand Wagoneer that is rated at 90 amps.

You should be able to use yours as a core and tell the counter guy that you want one for a 1986 Grand Wagoneer with a 360 engine.

I just parted out a GW and still have the alternator but it would probably be easier if you got one local to you.
