alternator bracket

what does the original bracket look like for a 1980 cj5 304. The one I have now is some welded stuff that works but it is not right and it is in the way of the p/s upgrade. Also where can I find the correct bracket. I see them on ebay but they all look different. Is there a difference in year models? There is a 1983 waggy 360 bracket for sale. Shouldn't this work? If anyone can post a pic that would be great.

I guess what I need to know is if the bracket is 1 piece or if it has a couple of brackets. Shouldn't a 360 waggy bracket fit?

My trail jeep is a chopped Wag w/ a 360 and I'm currently rebuilding a 77 CJ7 w/304 and needed the alt brackets and the one from the Wag 360 worked fine picked it up at pullapart. Compared to the Chop first and all pieces looked the same.

It depends whether you have A/C or no A/C. The brackets are different. If you have no A/C, then those brackets are getting difficult to find. Most Waggies had A/C. I do not have any good pictures of them.

The ones off of a Waggy V-8 will work, but you should get all of the accessory brackets (p/s too) and pullys. Use them as a set so that everything alines and the belts will be a stock application. Get the attaching bolts, too, some are long or odd stuff. A/C won't matter on most I've seen, a separate belt went from the alt to the a/c compressor.

On my 80' CJ5 304 the alternator bracket is simply a flat c shaped piece of metal with a slit through the middle long ways that would allow for adjusting the belt tension. This bracket was for the bottom mounting bolt on the alternator and would bolt to the engine block. The top bolt of the alternator used a spacer sleeve to make it square with the bottom and screwed into the block. It is mounted on the passenger side of the engine.

there are 2 style of brackets a c shaped on and the multi pc one this is the multi on

the only diff between the AC one and the non AC one is the spacer is longer and the plate to w/p is bigger

thanks for the help. I think that I found one that is off a 304 w/o ac. It is the c bracket style. Hopefully, this will solve my problem. Once again thanks for all the great info. and pics.
