All I got to say...

is TFI kicks azz.

Holy crap! What a difference, especially when the engine is cold. No stumble, no hesitation.

If you can hold a screwdriver, you can do this upgrade. $100 bux + 2 hours = mo betta.

TFI = Thick Filmed Ignition, not an injected fuel delivery system.

FI for $100, yeah I think ppl would be all over that It is a pretty easy upgrade and good for the money....

I have been thinking of doing that myself. What did you use for parts? I think I read somewhere you use the parts for a ford 300cid. Did you notice an increase in power?

Now that's funny....

TBI = Throttle Body Injection - $980
MPI = Multi-port Injection - $2300
TFI = Thick Filmed Ignition - $100 bucks
HEI = High Energy Igniton - $ varies up to $150

Google 'TFI 258' for all the info you will need to upgrade.

TFI is what we were 'talking' about last week (JuiceBox) in conjunction with the Nutter Bypass. You use the Ford cap, spacer, rotor and plug wires, re-gap the plugs, and use a Ford TFI coil.

so, what exactly is tfi and what does it do? is it only available for specific engines?

i have a chevy 229 v6, and am wondering if it would be possible to do this for my engine?
what all kind of parts would i need?

Every writeup I've found.

TFI is a high powered (relative to the Jeep Duraspark I) Ford Ignition system. The mod is a joke, it's practically a glorified tuneup. All you're doing is converting the output components in your jeep ignition to Ford HiPo... Good mod for the money.

You'd probably want to stick with Chevy stuff and go HEI if you're not already running that. The TFI conversion is for those of us running the stock AMC powerplants with Ford-sourced Duraspark ignition system.

Wow!! What a difference!! I put this mod in last night and it has definately made a difference in the idle as well as not having to pump the gas to start the jeep anymore. The throttle response is better overall as well. I HIGHLY recommend for stock 258 owners!!

Oh duh.... Perhaps if you'd have put chevy 229 in bold I would have read it. yeah, like Jeepskate said, stick with GM for your application. Just out of curiosity, what are you running now if not HEI? aftermarket? Although, HEI can be buggy too, just ask CJaredo7.
