air filters and locations

has anyone moved there airfilter to a different location to be able to use a bigger on or to keep it dry? i am thinking about moving mine to use a different type of intake and using a hose from the top of the carb to some type of air box or a snorkle.

Snorkle kits are popular. I've also seen people PVC pipe the intake through the firewall into the cab or into the cowl vent at the base of the windshield.
