air conditioning

Just wondering what years that A/C were available for CJ-7's? Or, how hard is it to put in an after-factory A/C unit? My wife is giving me grief and wants me to make our CJ more comfortable without always "having" to take the top off.

1977 to 1986 had the factory air by a company called American Air. Also the one used in the YJ (Wrangler) will bolt in as well. Watch your engine pulleys and brackets. E-bay has these units all the time.

It's not hard at all. You first need to buy yourself a kit for your engine type. There are places on the net that sell full kits. You install the air compressor, air condensor, run your lines through the firewall, install the dash unit which screws in underneath your current dash with like 6-8 screws and a couple of bolts in the back.

Give it a charge (get a pro to do this) and you're off...
I used to own two CJ's...Perhaps a 3rd is in the future?

I have a setup out of a YJ that I plan on putting in my 1979 CJ.

My friend removed the whole assembly from his CJ and has since sold the Jeep. I'll see if he's in the mood to get rid of it. It is complete except for the compressor which was left on the CJ as an OBA pump.

Look back in previous threads on this topic.
There is an aftermarket company I believe in Az. that apparently makes quite a good unit as it has been mentioned several times in here with great reviews for performance and ease of installation.
Good luck!
