Air cleaner
Just bought a 79 jeep cj7 and the carb is a bit naked.... no air cleaner. As far as I know its the stock 2 barrel carb whatever model that may be havent had time to research yet. New to the whole jeep thing and just trying to figure out what other air cleaner is a direct bolt on and where to find.

Its a ford carb so most fords will work just about any from the 70s or 80s, like vans, trucks, lincolns and such. Still id measure to be sure. Also get an idea of you choke linkage and make sure it clears. When I hooked up a manual choke kit to mine I had to raise the air cleaner a half inch. You could also measure it and get something off the shelf from autozone. Mine is an edelbrock, I think its either 12 or 14 inches diameter.

Don't limit yourself to Ford aircleaners. Pretty much any Quadrajet, Holley and Edlebrock will have the same diameter for the air cleaner, I believe it's a 5.250 diameter.

Scour the junkyards for a TAC, Thermostatic Air Cleaner. Once hooked up to the right valves and vacuum it will allow you to have warm air on a cold morning and ducted cold air at other times.

The aftermarket chrome pancakes look nice on a street queen but when you are splashing through rivers they will happily let water into your engine and you will have cold air on cold mornings and hot air on hot days.

got an air filter and stud kit. now noticing the threads are missing in the carb...... any suggestions just thinking about jb welding the stud in as a temp fix. plan to replace carb later

Tap it. Might have to weld a different bolt threads to your stud or something. But either tap it with the carb removed or do it very cautiously maybe with a peice of cardboard to keep any shavings out of the carb.

nothing there to tap except the outer diameter and its an 11/32 still trying to find a tap worth running into it
