Aftermarket tach install with Team Rush TFI/HEI upgrade
I have a tach laying in the CJ I want to install before I set the timing and tweak my 2100.
I was just reading the Teamrush sticky and didn't see it. Did a couple searchs, but maybe my terminology is off? I'm seeing lots of discussion on the TFI/HEI stuff, but no tach info. I'm looking for something butt simple to follow, green wire goes here...... red wire goes here........ Anything to help make the trailride Saturday. Thanks a million. ![]() EDIT: Changed the search terms again, got some basic tach instructions. On it.

Don't know if this will help you, but I had it marked for a future mod. Not sure if you have a factory tach. or as you said aftermarket, so I am assuming it's not a factory style tach. which is in series I believe.

Running On Empty...
|
The usual AFTERMARKET tach is an 'Add On'...
Will usually have RED & BLACK wires, those are power. Negative is 'Ground', and usually 'Black'... Power to the tach is usually 'Red' and should be 'Switched' from the ignition or accessory power. There is usually a 'Green' wire, and that will connect to your coil Negative connection. There will be a 'Odd Color' wire, blue, yellow, white, something like that... That will be the Gauge Light... ---------------------------------------------- You didn't say anything about FACTORY tach, so if it's a factory tach, the wire colors will change by year and number of cylinders it's supporting. Coming out of the Ignition switch, you will find a 10 Gauge RED wire, and a few inches from the ignition switch, you will find an electrical connector. That electrical connector is where you pull apart, and install the two heavy wires from the factory tach. The two smaller wires to the factory tach will be 'Ground' and 'Dash Light'. This V-8 tach is wired like mine, Black is ground, Orange is Dash Light, The two reds wires are Ignition Power Into the tach, And ignition power out of the tach to the ignition.
