Aftermarket Speedometer Cluster

Does anyone know of an aftermarket speedometer that would work in the CJ? I believe the hole diameter is 5 5/8", does this sound correct? I would like to find a better quality setup. I've looked but all I've found is an AutoMeter that's 5". I'm afraid the only way out of this one is to build a custom dash. Anybody try something different?

I think you are right. My friend was looking for an aftermarket cluster and had zero luck. You can either build a new dash or get a working cluster out of a donor. However, the doner cluster miles will obviously be different. I guess there is not too much to worry about since 90 percent of the odometers in the CJ's freeze anyway...

Nordskog makes digital dashes for all sort of vehicles. Their Jeep cluster has everything the stock on has, but looks a bunch cooler. I installed one of their digital dashes in my 88 Mustang. It took about 8 hours to wire in, mostly because the schematic in the Haynes manual was so small, but it worked great. You don't have to worry about changing gears or tire sizes either. All you have to do is mount a small button under the dash, once you hold it for a few seconds the dash goes in to cal mode, and you drive a mile, press the button again, and your speedo is calibrated.

I am not sure. I do remember reading here that a member housed an after market speedo behind the original lens. That it provided a perfect fit. Not sure what speedo he used though.
