AC Systems

Does anyone know how well these work? I was looking at the one MORRIS sales for 950.00. That's a lot of money but it sure is hot in Arkansas!

You can find them on the net for a early yj. Exact same set up, bolt under the dash for fairly cheap. If you try and find one for a cj= price increase even though it's the exact same system

They work ok, not great but does make a little difference. Nothing compared to a modern vehicle

I bought mine from Jeepair, it's made by Vintage Air and works damn good, equal to my Nissan Frontier, both blowing 42 degree air on high.

The difference in comfort level is largely due to the Nissan having a hard top, not cloth, a padded cloth headliner, carpet, jute backing under the carpet.

If the vehicle is not insulated you can't fault the AC for not maintaining a 45 degree delta.

Any kit you order is going to be off the shelf components so none are any better than any others.
If you go the junkyard route be aware that the cost exceeds the initial purchase price, such things as refrigeration components do not like having their internals exposed to air. You will most likely have to have new hoses made up flush the system and that sort of thing.

243 hit the nail on the head the AC units work fine its just the jeeps aren't insulated.

I ordered the kit from Morris, but when it came in the compressor pulley was for twin belts. My 80 4.2 has been converted to serpentine apparently I looked up the casting numbers and it is a 4.2. Couldn't they just send me a compresser with a serpentine pully and it work?

Yes or they could even send you a new clutch for your compressor
