89 wrangler bumper on a 82 CJ7?

Stupid question maybe but will a rear bumper from a 1989 Wrangler fit on a 1982 CJ7? I've got a great opportunity to pick one up but won't do me any good if she doesn't fit. Yes, I've visited the bumper manufacturer's website and no I haven't called them yet.

Not a direct fit as the holes are spaced different in the rear crossmember. With some drilling, it can be made to work

The factory CJ bumper has a frame tie-in bracket attached to the backside of the crossmember. If you redrill the crossmember for the YJ bumper be sure to fab a bracket to attach it to the frame, if not it will rip the bumper off when you make contact with something.

Now THAT'S good to know! I appreciate it. I think I'm going to skip the "great deal" and wait until I've got the dinero together for the one I've been eyeballing.

He's correct that it's not a direct fit. I modified a Smittybilt yj bumper to fit mine (see about page 3 or 4 of my build). But now they(Sbilt) make an adapter to fit Jeeps but it may just be for front bumpers.
