86 CJ7 Factory Service Manual

Hello folks..

Can anyone tell me where I can find an original Factory Service Manual for a 1986 CJ7? I have looked on eBay and there are some reprints, and most websites I have found have reprints, but no originals.

If I can't get an original, does anyone have a suggestion on the best place to get a reprint? I know some of them are so washed out you can't even read the thing from them making so many copies.

Also, do you know where I can get a parts catalog for this Jeep also?

I have a 86 CJ7 I am starting to do a rebuild on and I need a good manual.

Jamie

I bet you can search online and find one to download for free. I know some of them are out there.

I have a pdf of the 81-86 parts manual but its 37 MB so I can't email it. I think I downloaded it off one of the forums. If anyone has an idea of how to make it accessable I'd be glad to put it up for all to see.

I'm not sure if it would work legally, but if we can get yours online we could probably get others and create a little database of FSM's. It would depend whether a copyright has a limited life like a patent or is in effect as long as there is somebody to enforce it.

You might try a Jeep dealership. With the 20 year rule of parts, most mechanics will keep them for a couple of more years and then sell them.

To the Jeeper with the 37MB, can you zip file it and send it or download it to a CD and mail it? If so, let me know.

I have searched online without luck. I have found a lot of information for the Cherokee, but it seems the the CJ7 information is limited. I have found wiring information on the web and transmission information, but not the complete manual.

If you figure this out, I would like a copy of the pdf file. Zipping it up I think is a good idea. I am not sure if the parts catalog is copyrighted or not, that would be the only issue I could see with it.

Hello Bard (from a fellow Granite Stater)

I hadn't thought of going to a dealership, that might be a good place to find a used one.

Thanks for the two links. Do you guys know if they both include information on the Body also? I have seen a different manual for the body, but am not sure if it's the same manual or a different one.

I will be buying one of these with your recommendations. I just didn't want to get one of those cheap copied ones that you can't read.

Thanks again!

The Haynes CJ manual is a decent one.

Here is a link to the parts manual. Look at the bottom of the page for them.

I know where there is a French version of the factory manual downloadable if that interests you.

I just got my manual from the above posted link. It is brand new almost 4" thick full of all sorts of factory diagnosis. Give that guy a try if he does not have it I bet he might be able to get it. What a great buy

Cheers

Go to www.beamfile.com and download their program and then you can send the file from their url. All you need is the receipients e-mail address and both of you online at the same time. The files is sent from your folder to whomever you send it to. All they do is create a folder to put the file in. Kent

OK, I have bought a FSM manual from eBay and while it's a good reprint, and will help me greatly I have another question.

Does any know where I can buy a PDF format of the FSM? I am currently sitting at work, and while they have no problems with me surfing the web, email and such during down time, I can't just read a book.

So my thought was if I could find a place that sold them in PDF format I could look through the book while at work.

Anyone bought one online in a electronic format? I found one place, but that one was for a 84 and it didn't look to be complete. The ad for it just didn't seem right. I have seen places where they have transmission manuals or some wiring stuff, but no whole manual.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jamie
