86 CJ 6cyl or 4cyl?

Did they make a 4cyl CJ7 in 1986 or were they all still 6cyl?

If so, how common were the 4cyls? Thanks...

Four bangers were the standard engine through 87. I can't tell how common they are, but I think most first time buyers opted for the optional 6.

I agree with Joe. They are as common as dirt and worth about as much. I replaced one with a '91 Chevy 4.3 and turbo 350 tranny. Works great.

So with it being a 4cyl 86, maybe he has factory 4.10 gears in the 44 and 30....? that would be sweet for a 6 or 8 cyl swap and a set of slightly larger tires.

As a matter of fact... we have an AMC 360 fresh from the machine shop (+.030) sitting on a stand in my garage. The plan is to do a mild buildup on it. I'm trying to get him to do a T18 or an NP 435 conversion at the same time (currently has the T-5) to avoid future headaches with the tranny (he swears he's gonna take it easy on the tranny... but I know better ).
