85 CJ7 shock question
I'm putting a set of 1in. lift shackles on our jeep, will the stock length shocks work or will I have to get longer ones?

Is that all you're doing for lift?
What kind of driving do you do with it? If it is just a pavement-only DD, I would think you'd be fine with stock shocks. If not, I've got some brand new BDS shocks for a 4" lift that I'll make you a screaming deal on.

For now that's all I'm doing, The bushings were worn out, and the stock shackles were not in the best shape. I am putting poly bushings and the longer shackles on. This is my wife's first car, she bought it in 86, and I doubt she wants to do much trail running in it, just a little off roading. Thanks for the info.

You should be fine on the up travel, the down travel may hang by the shock limiting the axle drop. When your done installing the shackle, unhook one end of each shock, then jack up the rig by the frame so the axle can hang by the spring, then extend the shock to see if it reaches the mount you took it off of.
For the driving it sounds like your wife does you should be fine, but the above is a easy to check it, then keep it in mind when you get her new shocks some day. |
