85 CJ Voltmeter

My jeep starts normal and voltmeter reads 14 volts but after 30 seconds it peg's all the to the right, 16+, any ideas ?

When was the last time you replaced the alternator?

Have the alternator tested. I've seen them spike voltage right before they crapped out.
