84 cj7 Electrical Crackling....

Hello fellow jeep brothers... My jeep has been running good because of this forum and I thank you all... My new issue is when I leave the key on the "on" position while the motor is not running I can hear crackling in the distributor cap area, this is all new to me, not sure if this just started or it's been going on and I never noticed it.. Another thing that just started is while I'm driving doing 50 it jolts like its gunna turn off and it goes away and continues normal.. Your thoughts please,... Thank you

First, you should not do that. It's a quick way to destroy your ICM or Coil.

is it a crackle or a hum? Mine hummed until I put in a new ICM.
A crackling sounds like an electrical discharge which is probably the ignition coil firing. pull the center wire out and see if it still "crackles"

As John says.

Do not leave the ignition on without the engine running.

It will fry the ICM and coil. The ICM may already be on its way to permanent failure.

Here are a few pics of my distributor.. I also noticed one of the spark plug cables had white residue and not chrome like the others, what could that be, moisture?

Probably Moisture got under the cap and you are seeing corrosion on the terminal.
