83' 6 cyl pollution control hardware

I just bought a dry 83' CJ7 that spent it's life out west. The engine was rebuilt a couple hundred miles ago but the pollution control hardware has been hacked and wacked to the point that some of it appears to be hooked up and outher stuff just hanging (opeb vacuum hoses, electrical connectors not connected etc). There is no smog requirement in my state so I figure the best thing to do would be to install an HEI dizzie and a 81' non-electronic carb and toss all the vacuum valves and associated hardware. Any words of wisdom for this project?

I'm a "Out West" Jeep. I would ditch the carb and go with one of the fuel injection options. This way you can remove all the vacuum stuff and never worry about it. I have never seen or read any complainants from people who have gone the route. I chose the MOPAR kit, but I need something that was Calf smog legal. Not the cheapest but the jeep runs so much better with it.
