82 CJ7 4.2L with howell TBI header queation...

Ok. I've got a 1982 cj7 with 4.2 and Howell TBI kit (CA smog legal). Here's my issue: no more smog pump or air tubes and I need a new exhaust manifold. Frankly, I'm tempted to replace the intake manifold and complete exhaust (gotta keep the cat though). Anybody have any sugestions? It basically just needs the oxygen sensor bung and be durable. I was eyeing Borola. Thanks in advance.

I put the Borla on mine. My orignal manifold was warped and not sealing well. I was suprised at the improvment in low end power and also the gain in power at cruise speeds. the only problem I ran into was clearance for the clutch linkage, my clutch linkage was a rugged ridge replacement linkage and it wouldn't clear the O2 sensor on the Borla header, I repaired the original linkage by welding up the worn end and reshaping it with a file. now its close but it clears.

1985 CJ7, 258 with TBI, Header, T5, 3:54 gears

As easy as you make that sound, It's not true.
In CA even with the Howeell efi "which deletes many emission components"
Your header needs to be C.A.R.B. certified and also must have an EO#.
Those are what makes a header legal in CA.
The compliant header will unfortunately come with the AIR tube ports which will need to be plugged/caped.
As a side note, Borla's ss header is the best, But it's pricey.
