I thought RTV was silicone?? If so, it won't eat paint or rust. In fact it will protect against both. I sealed around a lot of places such as bolt holes, under the windshield, under the ws. hinges, around my light brackets on the side of the ws., etc. I was amazed at the help that provided in the 15 years since I applied it after painting it in 1996. I used Permatex's RTV blue.
