81 Cj7 Build.

Hi all, I am new here. I am also new to jeeps and 4 Wheeling . I thought I would share my project. It is a 1981 Cj7 with the four banger. This rig was my neighbors. Three weeks ago he towed it home and left the thing in gear and wasting the dana 300 transfer case. He bought a new/used one for 500 bux and installed it. A week later as he was charging the battery when the wind blew the hood closed shorted out the charger and the jeep cought fire. The FD was called by my next door neighbor and the fire was put out. I bought it from him for 800 bux. Since the jeep has a working Warn 8274 on it I dont feel I did too bad. I have a friend who has been a long time jeep owner and worked for 4 Wheel Parts. He said I could have done worse!! he has been helping and guiding me along.
I have bought a new window frame/glass and seals, a new painless 12 circuit wiring harness. A new throttle cable. I still need the rubber that goes between the window frame and the tub to make it a roller again. I dont know what I will do about the dash gauges or the steering column at this time. I have found an 86 for sale and hope to look at it soon. If it has a good tub I may buy it and make the swap. They want 700 bux. It is a non runner with the straight 6. Here are some pics of it when I bought it.

uuuuuhhhhh...OK!

Hey all here is a picture of the motor I built for my 65 Mustang. It is a 347 stroker with about 400 miles on her. I am thinking of putting this in the CJ at a later date. But for now I just want to get her running again.

Got anymore pics of the 65?? I also have a 65 I plan on finishing once the jeep is done. The drive train is next on the list for that project. What are your plans for this project???

Here is Yesterdays work!!! I am not gonna go crazy with this tub. It has way to much damage and rust. I am still looking for a good-un. But if I can't find one by the time I am ready to wire it up I will use it for now.

81 Sparky, since you live in Sac, have you tried JW. There a little pricey but they will have a tub for you. I would just go with a YJ tub. Keep your eye on craigslist also. I picked up a 91 yj rolling chassi with just the tub. I traded the guy my stock rims and tires for the whole thing. Just keep looking and a good deal will pop up!!

How bad is the rust????

Thanks Stan. I have tried JW. They want 1000 bux for a Yj tub. I don't think that is too bad of a price, however it is 200 bux more than I paid for the Jeep. I am keeping a look out for the right deal!! Mustang sold!! I bought this for a driver as I build the 81.

Two jeeps, you lucky ba*****!! When I stopped being a contractor I sold my work van to get the jeep. The old lady still complained. What year is that YJ?? I had a 91 afew yaers back. Back on subject, you should be able to pick up a tub alot cheaper than a grand. I have always had the best luck with posting an add on craigslist saying what I need. You will usually find a fellow jeeper out there willling to help out. Just keep looking!

Here's my last jeep
