79 cj5 engine and tranny swap?

Hi , as a novice I am wanting to change my inline six and tranny to a 4.8 fuel injected chevy with a GM 5 speed tranny. I have been told this will not work. Looking for expert advise and recomendations.

Thanks

I don't know why it wouldn't. I'm putting a 5.3 mated to my Ford NP435.

It's the length of the five speed that's the problem.

That 5 speed isn't any longer than a turbo 350, and those are in hundreds of CJ5's. I'm not saying its ideal but with a mild lift it can be made to work.

Check out Novak's website. Spend a couple of days reading everything on there. It's a wealth of info.

Gotta consider what transfer case can be adapted to the GM gearbox as well.
