'79 CJ5 Better than a decade build.

Bought this jeep 13 years or so ago. It was a life long dream to own one and after getting married in '01 and spending our honeymoon in Sadona Az, going on Pink Jeep tour and renting a TJ for a day, my new bride was sold on getting a Jeep.
This is what it started out looking like

After pretzling the rear shaft on a short outing I dove underneath to make some repairs. Sick at what I saw, out came the sawzall

After fabbing up a rear half of the frame with 3/16 rectangle tubing I starting grinding off the 257lbs of Bondo that had been cake on the tub

Pieced the tub back together with some 14ga steel and 3/16 plate on the comp cut, boat sides, and the tail.

Made some tube fenders

And made a shackle reversal

Decided to stretch the WB to 90". This required building a custom fuel tank, front steering gear mount, and crossmember change.

Lined the tank and painted

Bent some shock hoops and then painted the frame

Tub got new front floors, all 14ga steel, and a seat frame welded into the boat sides.

Frenched in the fuel tank fill

Prepped the belly

Slopped on a gallon of Herculiner

After "completion" the new valve cover leaked. Didn't match the head perfect so I made an adapter plate.

After sitting for too many years the intake gasket decided to shrink, dry out, and split creating one hell of a vacuum leak and a dead #1 cylinder.

Now that the weather has decided to get cold I'll probably have to wait to enjoy is some more next year Oh well, what's another month or 5
