'79 258 smog pipe threads?

If I remove the smog pipe from the manifold what are the threads needed to plug the holes? I have seen some info saying bolt and some that say pipe (NPT). thanks to all that have answered my questions in the past

they are NOT NPT, they are flare nuts. I'm almost positive they are like a 9/16 SAE thread, really oddball on purpose to keep you from going to FLAPS and easily bypassing emissions hardware. Exactly why you always see 'em welded shut and not plugged,

You talking the Egr pipe, or the air injection manifold pipe? Never mind I dont know why I read you had a 1979. Old age I guess

I was never able to find a bolt that matched the threads at the hardware store. Others have said they had luck getting something that worked in the plumbing section.

Instead, I ended up filling them full of muffler epoxy, and covered them with a piece of the old piping.

I just looked at one in the garage on my bench, and 9/16" may be about right but not a pipe thread. Looks to be a fine thread. May be able to find one in brass but for sure it is not a NPT, or none I have ever seen.

The pipe isn't hurting anything and the pump was removed by PO. I want to put a manual choke cable on the BBD and it looks like the smog pipe is in the way. Isn't the manifold cast? I can't weld cast and certainly don't want to remove it to weld. Pulling the carb would be much easier to install the choke.

If it's flare and it looked to be it certainly isn't NPT. Fine thread bolt maybe? I don't want to remove them till I have the proper plugs. Thanks

Here is a link to a set of bolt plugs for an AMC 360...

http://www.teamgrandwagoneer.com/parts/Emissions/more2.html

OOPS - these won't fit the AMC 258 exhaust manifold...
