'78 CJ5 Build Thread

Ok guys, I've been messing around with my CJ for a couple of years now and haven't done anything worth mentioning (besides fixing stuff). So I have two weeks off and I'm going to try and get it all done in this time, we'll see. The entire jeep will be Rhino Lined and will use all black hardware. I just got my ATK remanufactured 258 (with comp cam, new springs & lifters, headers & DUI distributor) I going to throw in for power. Also putting Poison Spyder Customs front tube fenders (3") and rear Comp Cut Rear Crusher Flares. Also putting on their Brawler front bumper with a competition stinger. Also, Quadratec's stock price probably just jumped from my order. Have the following coming:

Thanks man, offshore now. Will be home sometime before Friday night. Also got some Delta Tech HID headlights and dash on backorder. Should have a bunch of goodies at my front door!

The Jeep is at the shop getting engine swapped and has been there for almost a week... Just sitting here with a bunch of parts.

Sell me your fenders since you are throwing them out. I like the Jeep the way it is. I think the body is in too good of shape to hack up into a rock crawler.

Mister4x4 you're welcome to the fenders, I'll let you know when I get 'em off.
T18A I knew something had to be wrong! Thanks!

Well, got the jeep back from the shop today. While there they installed the Comp Cams camshaft, springs & lifters into the remanufactured ATK 258. Also put on put on dual outlet Pace Setter headers (no muffler yet ) Weber 38/38 2bbl carb, new power steering pump and a DUI distributor. The guy had to do a little fabricate a bracket for the throttle cable. Idles great, and feels much more responsive overall than the old engine.
Got it home, put in the Borgeson steering shaft (man, the old one had so much play in it, steering is much tighter now) and a new radiator too. Also took off the bumper and winch to make way for the new stuff.

throttle bracket

Brownbagg, I don't need any of it. Should I have just bought a $11k Jeep? I'm just trying to build it how I want it and build it right.

If you will re-size the pictures to 800x600 (width x height) they will fit on the page and we won't have to pan around to see the Jeep.

Pretty rough man....who cares what he needs and what he spends. I've got at least 10k in to my 5 that I'm sure isn't worth 5k but its how I want it.

I say congrats and keep up the good work!
