77 cj 7 Heater upgrade

I have a 1977 CJ-7 with the heater blower motor inside the vehicle. I have seen that others on this board have done an upgrade with a Blazer heater motor, but they had the blower motor coming in from the firewall. Does anyone know if the blazer upgrade will work with a CJ with the blower on the inside. If so which one should I use? Any help greatly appreciated.

The answer to your question is no it won't work with your heater box. If you switched to the later style heater box and made a hole in your firewall it could work.......but thats the only way.

Hey Steve,

I have a heater setup out of an '85 CJ that I could sell ya if you do decide to upgrade. However, if you put the later-style heater in your CJ, you'll have to cut a hole in the firewall for the heater motor.

I don't know of any real upgrade that can be done to the '77 style box....in fact all I have ever had were the older style heaters myself, lol.

How can you tell which one you have? My junk is a '79 but someone put an 80's tub on it along with some other 'newer' items.

Mid year of '77 Jeep made a few changes to the CJ's. One of which was swapping from the heater motor in the box to the one that goes through the firewall. If you have anything later than a '77 you have the style that goes through the firewall. You can see the motor under the battery tray.
