72 cj5 transmission choices

I have a 72 cj5 with a 304 and a three speed. What tranny and xfer case do I have now and what are some good choices for a 4 or even 5 speed upgrade? What would be involved in terms of fits ie: drive shafts, floor pan cutting etc, transfer case, etc? The jeep runs great but runs out of gear at highway speed, an od would be great. The throw out bearing seems noisy so now's as good a time as any to swap it.

72 seems to be the bastard step child model year!

If stock, you should have the T-15 and Dana 20.

T-15 and Dana 20 unless someone's replaced them.
