68 cj 5 wont start up

so last weekend i had my 5 up and running, i went away for work and came back this yesterday and it wouldnt turn over. would the fact that it was in the single digits temperature wise this week have something to do with it?

That weather could have easily killed the battery, did you check it?

More likely your alternator is not wired correctly and is draining your battery when the ignition is off.

Some diagrams from the great folks over at www.earlycj5.com:

Yup. An alternator would only take about an afternoon to kill your battery. Next move to the POS batt cable. Clean the posts, check the wire, the connection on the starter, etc. That link is a great site with some really knowledgeable people. You got a V6 or F-head?

When you turn the key, do you hear any clicking from the solenoid on the starter?

V6's are notorious for starter failure due to the primary ignition(key) lead being too small. Try attaching a jumper lead from the solenoid stud and touch it to the pos batt terminal(be sure the rig is in N and the E brake is on). If it cranks, you might have to wire in a Ford style solenoid to eliminate the problem. I made this mod about fifteen years ago and have never had a problem since. Of course you need to check the battery first.
