$50 temporary solution to my seating problems

Right now the main problem with my CJ5 is the seat. I have to either crane my neck or kink it to the side to see over/under the windshield frame. I plan on using the summer to gather parts and clean out the garage so that next fall i can get started building it. For the time being I want to drive it though.

I am thinking my solution might be the $50 racing seats from RCI. jjust by installing them it will lower my a$$ a good 4 to 5 inches. i understand that they might not be the most comfortable but its a 66 CJ5, nothing is going to be comfy by todays standards. I am concerned that with it as is, while it will be fine off road(windshiled down) drinving around is pretty dangerous. Not only because of my discomfort and lack of visibilty but also because AS IT IS RIGHT NOW I WILL HIT THE PAVEMent before the roll bar.

opinions?

9sorry about the caps lock)

What are you? 7' tall??? Shouldn't you be in the NBA?

I think those racing seats you speak of might be the most logical solution. I don't know what (if any) seats would bolt right in but I'd also look into just going to a salvage yard and pulling some bucket seats out of a sports car. You might have to fab something up to get them to fit right, but that would be a cheap logical solution as well.

I am bit over 6 ft but well over 250# LOL The previous owner "fabbed" in some car buckets but with the thickness of the seat, its just too high for me. Eventually I plan on putting together a nice set of seats and making some brackets, maybe even get a fuel cell so I don't have to work around the tank. I just want to be able to drive it every now and again this spring/summer and right now it just feels terrible. I figure for $50 if it's really uncomfortable, I'll make it the passenger seat!

Will this option leave you with enough leg room?

I've already notched the wheel well out and moved the existing seat back, I am pretty sure there will be room.

The problem isn't necessarily the driver, it's the early windshield. I'm only 5'9" and have the same problem in my earlies. The '69 through '75 windshield will help you out somewhat as it has curved glass that goes all the way to the top of the frame. Still not a total solution.

So I ordered the seat last night. Probably not the smartest move financially right now, but the money is spent. Hopefully I can fab up a bracket and have it in by next weekend.
