4.56 gears with 3pd Auto to much??

I just put 4.56 gears in my CJ7 with a TF727 3Spd automatic tranny. I m only running 33" tires. Did I gear to high? At 45 MPH I am running at 2200rpm. Atleast what I think is 45mph because my speedometer is now 10-11mph off. Should I be running 35" tires with this setup? Also where can I find new speedo gear for the 4.56 and 33" tires?

Thanks in advance.

ALOT of it depends on what you want to use your Jeep for.

as a DD on the FWY- yep, a bit much gear.

as a wheeler- you are fine

there are alot of different opinions as to what it should/shouldn't be, but I REALLY think it depends on what you are using it (mainly) for.

Check out this site: Randy's Ring & Pinion. Calculators.

I'm running a T5 and would love to have 4.56s. Did you find a deal somewhere? Have to upgrade carriers?

big differance in driveability from a t-5 5 speed w/OD to a 1:1 final 3 spd auto.

You would probably be happier with 4.10's and 33's with that tranny. If you use one of the gear calculators, remember that 33's are not really 33 inches in diameter. They will be something less than that.

I actuall got them from a local 4 wheel shop with a Black Friday special buy on get one free with half off install. I was going to need a carrier for the front Dana 30 so I bought a locker instead that eliminated that issue, and only cost $250 more than buying the carrier.

If I was to look for a better automatic transmission to swap out, maybe a 4pd with OD. Any recommendations to a good bolt up?

According to the chart w/33's and 4.56 gears 3050 rpm's @ 65mph. with 35's 2850 rpm's. This would be a little lower of you have a lock up converter. I drove my for 6 years with a 999 w/lockup converter 456 gears and 35's it was wound up. Most of the time I put it on the trailer, the longest trip was to the trails in the Calico Mts. near Barstow Ca about 65mi. speed was kept to around 60mph. I didn't think that the CJ's came with a 727? Plasterman is there any good places to wheel there In Henderson My sister lives there, next time I go for a visit I will throw the jeep in the trailer and you can show me around.

Only had the jeep for a couple months and have not had a chance to find any spots to go wheeling, but plan on getting up to speed real quick. If you are headed this way let me know and we can find some trails. As far as the TF727 goes, my jeep came with the T5 but the PO swapped it out. I would much rather have a 4spd auto or the manual tranny back.

I went the other way Took out the T5 and put in a 999. The large rocks that we have down here the auto made it so much easier. Now I've taken out everything and put in a 5.7 vortec and and OD trans, went to D44's a SOA and 488 gears. But with The Sand and Gravel business so bad down here it has kinda stalled my progress. Do I'm back to driving my I call it my backup Jeep with a T5. Tri County Gear did a article in I think 4 wheel drive and Sport Utility magazine on Installing a 700r4 into either a cj or yj. You could give them a call # 909-623-3373 that's the # I have for them don't know if it's still good Let me know what you find out. Dave

Quatdratec or 4wd sites have a unit that convert this for you that hooks to the tranny
