What's The Potential Hp Of An Amc 360 With Edelbrock:
Aluminum Heads, Air Gap Intake, Cam And 750 Carb? Anyone
Have A Guess?

depends on cam size, compression, and what size heads. the combistion chamber size wil have a affect on the compresison ratio.

got specs, il lgive it a shot

THE ONLY THING I REALLY KNOW FOR SURE IS THAT THE NEW EDELBROCK HEADS WILL GIVE A STOCK AMC 401 9.5:1 COMPRESSION

those heads are about 2k, but so sweet.

if you wanna push the amc motor you have to do oil passage work ad other stuff to get the oil where it needs to go. these motor lube liek shat.

look up a place performance american style, they have all sorts of stuff to solve this problem


if it was me, go with a nice size cam, maybe abotu 500 lift( i have one that needs to be cleaned up if you need it), go with a 750 truck evenger carb. those heads, headers, nice exhaust, do the ignition with msd, edelbrock intake manifold, and you should mak eabotu 400hp if you can tune it.

do the timing nice and you should be ok. but hust to let you knwo, the amc motors that came in the jeep have lower power than the ones in the amx's and such. i got one from a 71 amc amx which was 4 barrel and the motor makes i think 265hp and 345 tq stock. i looked up those cars with the 4 barrel option and got those numbers form every site.


look up that place and let me know if you cant find it. il help ya if you need to know more

MY 360 just came off the dyno @ 410 hp on 93 pump gas @ 6k rpm. I know there is more to be had once it's broken in. Fully worked iron heads(40 hours, my time), Comp 292H cam(2500-6500rpm, too big 280H is fine), Sharp roller rockers. 10.5 Bulltear forged pistons, shot peened stock rods, knifed crank, truck avenger 770 carb (too big, go w/670), Air gap, HEI, chrome moly pushrods (Just hardened won't do) and oil mod in lifter gallery. I wanted more of a street rod this time. TQ will suck for off roading, but the franny T-18 might help..maybe!

The Comp 280 Magnum is a pretty darn good cam. Here's a 350 with Edelbrock Performer RPM heads and intake with a 670 Street Avenger carb and a Comp 280 Hyd/Magnum.

Bore 4.140, stroke 3.440, compression ratio is 9:1. It is equipped with Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum cylinder heads topped off with Edelbrock's Pro-Flow Electronic Fuel Injection. It has a Competition Cams hydraulic camshaft 224/231-112 @ 0.050", CV Products hardened push rods, and Scorpion aluminum roller rocker arms. The bottom end consists of the stock AMC rotating assembly, ACL engine bearings, Milodon oil pan with oiling modifications throughout the engine.

Damn, I knew I went too big on the cam. But I'm shooting for a streeter, no more mud up to the headlights! I just figured w/a glass body..BTW, I won't dime ya to the Corvette club for cutting up a Pacecar. I see them on Hemmings, 9 miles, plastics on the seat..... Bull, go enjoy. I always thought of buying that body style cheap, and putting in a 383. Beige/brown sleeper. Schweet ride man!

Sure, it's an extremely clean pace car with less than 50k miles but it's still an L-48, lol. The car owner, David, wants more but it's quite unlikely that he'll get it. This project almost cost him a divorce attorney. Ric, the shop owner, told him if he wanted more he would make him yank out the original L-48, return it to stock and start over with a clean build.

I had a beige/brown (Barbie Vette) many moons ago, lol. Anyways, yes, the 292 Magnum is an awful lot of camshaft!

Another cam that would work really well for the OP is the Isky 270 Megacam. It's just about as good as it gets for an old-school kind of deal with around 350 to 360 cubic inches.

Of course, he could always build a 10.0:1 383 with a big solid roller cam. Here's one I did in '04 http://jeepspace.jeepforum.com/video...1569#video1569 486 hp and 482 ft.lbs. Not too many performance engines like to be held down to 2,500 rpm before letting 'em rip and mine was no exception! It fought it the whole time.

It's a sweet setup for sure. It's not mine but I use Kennedy's videos for some ideas and dream big. Some day when I have no budget. Except for the efi setup I thought it might give the OP some idea of a similar build.

Cj 360 hp

I ran a 360 with 915x heads and a 484 lift cam, 4412 two barrel carb, and a few other mods in a dirt track car and ran in the 13s ,so it has endless amount of horsepower

jmag, what brand and model headers are you using? I gasket matched my heads, and then the header (do not know brand) would not seal (not enough meat left). Had to put the cast manifolds back on
