350/SBC wiring problem
Some how my wiring on my cj is a mess. For some reason I'm having problems with the starter, selinoid, alternator, ignition wiring. Everything was fine then I was heading to work and the sumabeech died out of nowhere. I'm running the stock wiring with some mild rewiring done by my buddy. I'm running a one wire alternator hook-up and a chevrolet style starter with the selinoid on it. Anyone here running an SBC with the stock Jeep wiring (with obvious modding) and have any words of wizdom for me? How is yours wired?
Where's John? He's the guy who knows all the wiring. Got a good diagram?

Problem number one:
mild rewiring done by my buddy I only have a few wires hooked up to my 350. 1. Started 2. Alt to battery 3. Cap & Rotor I had to replace all my wiring because the dumb a$$ previous owner used TELEPHONE WIRE. Did it start after stalling? Do your lights flicker when driving - if so bad grounds I would go back and check all wiring and make sure everything is done right. Only wire I could see causing this problem is the one to the cap/rotor maybe. Might be an exposed wire that is shorting out. Check your fuse. Wiring is the biggest pain in the butt. Thing to do in the future: 1. Soldier all connections 2. loom all wires 3. where your soldier used shrink wrap material. Once done you will never have to worry about a short again: I went yellow loom crazy, and I have not had a problem since. ![]()

So you only have three wires running in the engine bay? Starter, alternator, and distributer? Stupid question but one wire alternator? The problem with mine lies within the starter selinoid/battery/alternator hookup. I have one wire from the alternator to the selinoid, the postive cable from the battery to the selinoid, and I think two other wires going to the starter selinoid from the wiring harness. I know this probly doesn't make much sence but I hope it helps you help me ![]()

alternator to the selinoid = change it to have the alt cable hook up the the battery.
I use a Optima battery (DUAL POST BATTERY) and use the top post to go to the starter and the side post to hook up the Altentator. I have two wires going to the starter. 1. Battery to starter 2. Wire from steering column to Solinoid. Chevy came with allot of the wiring going to the starter because it was a easy place to hook all the wires together for the battery. When I was talking about wires I was thinking + feeds that were cricital. I forgot stuff like electric chock I am off next week, I will see if I can send you some pics. Email me what pictures you want to see Schretter.Works@gmail.com
