From what I've seen there is one type of 1 bbl manifold and 2 types of 2 bbl manifold. One 2 bbl manifold bots to the intake for a heat riser and the other 2 bbl manifold is seperate from the exhaust and is water heated.

I think the last design is the best af as stock manifolds go.

Now there is a dizzing array of aftermarket available from 1 to 3 carbs to MPI.

The '85 and '86 intakes have a slightly different casting which works better with aftermarket headers. I of course used an '84 and had to grind it...DRAT!

I used to own two CJ's...Perhaps a 3rd is in the future?

Does intake manifold for 2 barrel carb only have one retangular opening?

I've got an engine that I'm having trouble getting to run which came with a basket of mismatched parts for a carb. I can't determine what year the engine is or even if it should have a single or two barrel carb. I believe it is a 258 engine. I can't find any engine code markings that correspond to the manual I have. If the local Auto parts store only has a choice of a single barrel or a double does this mean one or the other should work? My manifold opening is about 1 1/2 by 4 inches and I assume it is a 2 barrel but ?

the one barrel has one hole and the 2 barrel has two holes. Maybe someone machined out the spacer between the holes for mor flow. the two barrel has 4 bolts the 1 barrel has two bolts.

Yes either one will work, but the 2 bbl will have more options for different carburators swaps.
