Thought I would throw together a list of the part numbers I ordered to swap from a 15-20 Gallon Gas Tank on a CJ. I picked up a 20 gallon gas tank off craiglist that was stripped.

I didnt notice a 20 gal tank in the list. do you already have a tank, is it poly?

http://www.quadratec.com/products/51306_14.htm which includes some of the items you have ordered. plus extensions, and strap.

or
0051XL from here: http://www.mtscompany.com/jeep.htm

You will probably need to have some light sheet metal to shield the exhaust pipe from the tank and a way to attach.

You dont need the filler and vent hose (same for 15 or 20 gal) but if they are the original 1978, good idea to change. And probably good idea to change all new fuel and return line. Take care that the fuel line is the correct size.

Do a search on the forum, the exchange as been talked about a lot and there are some good ideas and tricks on remove and install and upgrades.

Edit: Dugh, just saw your comment that the tank was not on the list.

Maybe not on some years, but I can assure you by personal application that the filler and vent hose are the same for 15 and 20 gal fuel tank on a 78 cj7.

I'm still trying to find a good skid plate. I am trying to figure out if I can use the 15 gallon as a starting point and just weld onto it.

I had to cut the hoses on the original to get them off so I needed new ones any way.

I know I had to go through quite a few postings to get these, so I tried to put something together for everyone else to use.

I picked up a 21 gal poly tank for my CJ. It was a complete kit with sending unit installed. It also came with extenders to lower the factory skid plate and a center strap. Maybe this weekend I can get a chance to install it.

If you don't have time to do it right, how will you ever find time to do it again?

Just did this upgrade on my CJ. Vent and filler neck are the same!! Just keep in mind that your tank will be lower, about halfway down the rear diff.

Ok I need a new vent and fill hose for my 20 gallon poly tank in my '86 CJ7. Is it safe to assume the above hose parts J5362158 (filler) & J5362159 (vent) will work? thx
