1986 CJ7 Laredo - Fair price?

Hey, I hate asking but I know those here know so much more then me. I am looking for a CJ, and saw this. From its description does it seem like a fair price? My budget is a bit below the asking price and would like to keep in my range. I understand the market price is what someone is willing to pay but if I were looking for a CJ7 that was in good condition, body wise and engine what should I expect to pay? Thank you in advance for any insight and I am looking forward to owning my own CJ sometime soon!!

I would expect to pay that much for a all original Laredo with factory paint and stickers. That's way to much $ IMO.

the floor pans been replace so that means there rust on the vehicle. even if it wass mint I think its about 2k too high, with bodt replacement, maybe 4k on high side

Thanks everyone. I am just looking for opinions. I am in no rush but would love to buy a CJ soon. I will make an offer and see how it goes.

Not only yes but F(*&K yes! That's an awesome jeep.

I think 6500-7500 for that jeep is not overpaying. A lot of original stuff. Moreso, some annoying stuff for a first time jeep buyer has already been taken care of. Sounds like you are paying a little bit for the stereo system he put in it (unfortunately). Offer him 6500 See what happens.

Wouldn't pay more than 5500$, and even that's stretching it, but then again that's just my opinion in virginia. Power steering and brakes run about 500$ each so that's nice.

Get pictures of the engine bay and frame right behind the spring mounts. If the frame is in good shape and the engine bay isn't full of splices or other crap, I'd say 6-6500 is a fair price for my area.

I cant stand it when people advertise the CJ as a "Laredo' when more than half of what makes it a Laredo is gone or changed.
I guess Im picky as I have a Laredo...If you want an original CJ or or redone like original......this one misses the mark just a little. Still nice, but a little over priced for what it is. I say keep looking.

I'd be curious to know what the "surface rust" consists of. 8k or so is close-maybe a tad on the high side, but not far off-for a late model CJ7 in the Carolina's IF its solid, rust free and running strong.

Find his "Superwinch hubs because Warn hubs don't fit with factory Laredo caps" interesting. Can't tell from the tiny pics, but do superwinch hubs work with OEM centercaps?

To OP, looks like a clean Jeep. The "light surface rust" would concern me given that the floor pans have been replaced (that means there was MAJOR rust in the pans, and more ould be hidden elsewhere)

The whole "Laredo" thing is misleading. Front seats are cheap aftermarket, and Laredo seats in good shape are worth $$$, so I'd subtract that from the value.

Around here, assuming no rust, that would be a $6-7K Jeep (guess) only because it's shiny. The repaint and missing Laredo seats kill any collectibility, so you're just pricing a Jeep, not a collectors item.

I would agree with others probably a $6-8K Jeep. What the ad doesn't say is how many miles are on the vehicle. If the engine is tired which I suspect it might be (I am thinking if he was using as a semi daily driver at 20K miles the previous 24 years could have put 150K on it) it would be worth less. If the engine is good and it does have the Dana 44 I would say the $6-8 figure.

Got some additional pics of the Jeep. Undercarriage looks VERY nice. Poly body mounts, Odometer reads 220K, and apparently the rebuild happened at about 142K.

Good looking Jeep. Again, with the Laredo seats and a repaint not a collectors item, but looks like a good solid Jeep if someone wanted to jump right into one without having to put a lot of work into it right off the bat.
