Who sells the best replacement heater core ? Or should I have mine flushed if it's not leaking. Are there any better heater cores out there ? I will be doing the blower motor upgrade and wanted to know what my options are once I'm in there. Thanx.

RockAuto.com has a few heater cores listed. One is VISTA-PRO Part # 399210, Core Size 7 7/8 x 6 1/8 x 2. Does anyone know what the stock core size is for my '83 4.2L ? Basically asking if this one is bigger or smaller and if its bigger can I modify the box to make it work ?

It has to be the right size and is easy to get usually. If it is not leaking, then a good flush usually does it wonders. They don't go too often, but I did replace mine while it was open if I remember right.

I've got to change my heater core this week. Of course it waits until its 12 degrees out to start leaking! My question is, can you replace the studs that come through the firewall if you were to snap one? And where can you get them if you can replace them?

Luckily I got the heater box off without snapping the studs... Moral of the story is dont let someone else bed line your firewall unless you tell them what not to cover!

I might run into the same problem. Also, quadratec has a core for $63, autozone $38 didn't check napa yet but what's the difference ?

Still trying to decide which core to get. The prices vary a lot and have no reviews to go on. I was hoping to get some input from here. Is there anything I should stay away from or are they all the same ?
