1985 CJ7 Renegade or Laredo or ?

Just bought an 85 CJ7, auto, with 54K on it. Nice Jeep but have no idea if it regular model, renegade, or laredo. Checked the paint codes and it matches whats on jeep. VIN decoder tells you nothing. Just wondering if someone knew how to tell these models apart. Is there a list of options. Or does someone have a link to an 85 cj7 manual.

Thanks

as you said, the vin doesn't tell you anything about what package might be on it. also working against you is the fact that almost all options were available to all jeeps regardless of appearance package. so you could have a regular CJ7 with all the laredo options (tach, clock, chrome accessories, etc), but it not have the laredo package.

i think only way to be sure is have the original window sticker or it have the original paint with the hood decals still in place.

Thnks for the response. I found the Original Warranty Book and Manual under a center console in the jeep and it does not help either. Im still new to the Jeep thing and have a millon questions i need answered. Love to List what options I have so someone could tell me how to put it back original. Is there a good website to go to. Need to find all original options available on the CJ to compare. Ive searched the web but only found the 82 options list in another thread. Any help would be great.

Post some pics. IF some of the original items are still there......carpet on the sides/back of seats with two vert stripes in them are Laredo. Chrome rims, grill cover, side mirrors too. Renegades had chrome rocker gaurds while Laredo had black. There may be signs left to tell, but need a few pics.

The Jeep Starting with Exterior. No Stripes, chrome or stainless rocker gaurds, chrome rims(dont think original), Painted grill, chrome headlight rings, chrome front bumber with tubular(2 or 3 inch) brush gaurd built into bumper, chrome air intake near window, black mirrors, top missing, no holes for soft top, hard doors with chrome handles, factory hitch on rear, locking gas cap.

Interior: Black seats w/o carpet on sides, black door panels(no carpet), auto trans, tilt, leather steering wheel, chrome grab bar above glove box, chrome inst. panel surround, plastic speakers on dash panel, black carpet front and rear, has a center console(oversized) with locking compartment.

Probably leaving a bunch of stuff out.

Thanks

Laredo will have a leather wrapped grab bar above the glove box, leather steering wheel with fake hex head bolts on the horn button, pin striping on the instrument panel, seats with silver inserts and carpet as described previously....
(and big "Laredo" decals on the hood, LOL).

But like Renegade79 said...can't tell for sure anyway.

My 85 CJ8 is a Laredo, but doesn't have power steering and brakes. What idiot ordered it that way? Grrr. It does have SS rocker guards, not black.

I think the Renegade package was more a decal, tire and wheel package, but someone with more facts will reply.

Most of the stuff you listed is aftermarket add-on stuff. The info on what goes with each trim package has been posetd here several times, so a search should turn it up. Pretty much if you don't have the chrome grill, stock front bumper, mirrors, stock wheels & rear bumperettes, aluminum rocker trim, and don't have a clock, tach & striped seats, it's not a Laredo. Renegade is trickier as some had chrome wheels and some had white wheels, but most of them at least had a factory tach. You probably just have a regular CJ-7

There was a thread on this not too long ago. I tried to search for it, but came up empty. You may have better luck. As stated there is a lot of different info out there on what each package has. I have an 81 Renegade. The vehicle came with the decals of course, a 304, wrapped steering wheel, and rocker aluminum rocker guards. I do not have the tach or clock though. As read in the previous post, I believe that most of these packages were a dealer install. Try the search and look through that thread. There were some pics that might help you identify what you own.

Thanks Guys, I does sound like I have a regular Cj based on your info. Does anyone know how I can up load a picture. I want you guys to see it. Like to know if the front bumper and brush gaurd was an option. If not I am going to take it off of the jeep. Thanks for the help.

Jeepskate is dead on right about everything, except the part about having "a regular CJ-7".

Part of the joy of owning a Jeep is discovering that yours is unique, similar but not identical to any other other Jeep ever made. Kind of like snowflakes.

Very nice! It's missing its rust, though. I believe that was factory standard for all trim levels, not an option. At least I know you didn't have to pay extra for it.
I don't care for the big bull bar up front, but mount a winch behind it and I'll let it slide.
