1984 CJ7 with a 20 gallon fuel tank- dead guage

I bought an 84 CJ7 a month ago. It has a few issues. Dead temp and fuel gauge is one of them. The previous owner told me the fuel gauge has been dead since he pulled the 15 and put in a 20 gallon tank. I don't think he was a very competent mechanic, but he could make the Jeep 'look pretty'.

I'm guessing I'll need a new fuel tank sending unit. What year did Jeep start putting 20 gallon tanks in? Figure I'll order the part that way.

Thanks!

Go here:

Jeep Fuel System Parts for CJ5, CJ7, & CJ8 Scrambler at Morris 4x4 Center

Go down the page a little and you'll find the sending unit for what you need. It will specify for 15 gal or 20 gal. Just make sure you pick the right one. Excellent Customer service, Ship very fast. I have recieved some of my orders the next day if I order early in the morning.

Thanks for the heads up on the manual. Found the link to the field service manual on the forum. It's at http://www.civilianjeep.info/84-86FSM/CJ-FSM-84to86.pdf

Of course, I ordered the manual yesterday. It's ok though, it'll help me get the MC 2150 on. The carter carb is off already.
