1981 CJ7 air pump

Over the past three years I have had to replace the air pump several times. Jeep runs great, but after a month or so each refurbished air pump starts making all kinds of noise. It's really too annoying to handle the squealing. I live in Ca and removing is not really an option.

Take the pump belt off and run without it.

Put the belt back on when it's smog-testing time.

Problem solved.

It has a serpentine belt and the thermostat housing is in the way if I go with a shorter belt.

Oh damn, I forgot about those funky California serp belts.

My air pump always made a racket, too, but mine had it's own dedicated belt.

Sorry I'm no help.
