1979 CJ7 Quadratrac

I just bought a 1979 CJ7 Quadratrac, (this is my first jeep).
I have a question, the emergency 4x4 selector was missing and the vacuum lines from the quadratrac have been plugged. So does the four wheel drive work without the selector?
