Ha! I can't wait to see this thing done either! Every time I build a Jeep (especially a CJ) I say that I will never do one again. Then I sell it for significantly less than I have in it. Then I end up letting that money sit there in the bank, and get the itch a month or so later and end up buying another one!!!! Ah well. I guess that there aren't any magic pills or penacilin to fix my Jeep bug.

I want to build the CJ on a 1K budget just to know I can still do it.
I tried - failed - I came in under 2K tho on the 64 I now drive daily

trying to do the cj6 for free - failed at that too - spent 24 bucks on a transmission mount

Have collected a pile a scrap but the scrap prices have tanked with the economy

raked leaves outta a buddies yard today cause it'll buy the shocks (he goes to Fla for the winter) the guy he had lined up never showed

Paying for the shocks was one thing, but I was pissed at my 2 lazy kids (they came to help) - there not really lazy, they were having a temporary problem with their priorites, but that's all fixed now

Don't listen to what anyone says, she's beautiful. I'd wheel it for sure.

BTW, I didn't see anyone else mention, but it looks like you do have an AMC20 rear with an aftermarket cover (one I've never seen before). It's not a bad axle at all, but you'll want to upgrade if you're running 35" or larger tires probably.

Thanks of the advice. I think I am gonna stick with the 33's that are on it now. Believe it or not, those tires are 12 years old, and not showing a single crack anywhere from dry rotting, and they still have almost full tread!

i'd still be a little worried. i've got a buddy who had a tire explode on the interstate from being too old. uniroyol tire i believe, and it was probably 6-7 years old. it was a front wheel drive car and he only replaced the front two tires because the back two "looked perfect." understand wanting to stay under budget, but just wanted to add my 2 cents.

Awwww, you really do care!

Just kiddin man, I appreciate the input of good ole common sense. Sometimes I don't always have my fair share of it. I guess it would be good to at least take em and have em checked out if not even replace them. Although, it will definately kill my 1K budget!

Fix the frame and do whatever the hell you want. That tub will work just fine. Get it all done, I'm coming down to Sunset for the 4th of July, and I'll come over and see it.

It's gonna take time and money. I don't see anyway around repairing the body.

Go with the restore and screaming motor...it's easier to spend someone else's money

Let me know when you get down this way. I actually live about 15 min from sunset. Just try to throw some seats and a windshield on your Jeep if you bring it down

Reparing the body I'm not that worried about. I am just gonna slap on the YJ tub and go. may do a LITTLE body work, but that's about it. Dunno if I am willing to do the full ground up on this one though. Too much work from the start. I may find a better platform (CJ8) to do a ground up. I missed out on a great one for 3500 a few weeks ago.

So I made a little headway today.....
Stripped the frame with a wire wheel, patched some rough spots, and began painting with some rustoleum hammered black. Looks fantastic thus far!

Updates....um....not quite like I would like to have. I have been kinda slack with thxgiving and all. Mostly been working on the TJ, as the CJ is outside....and it's COLD!!!! Gonna take to it tomorrow morning though, try to get the rest of the CJ frame prepped and somehow work that YJ tub off. the body mount bolts are refusing to come loose, and I have a feeling I will be breaking a few. Ah well! That's what JF is for!
