1978 J20 drive train swap into 79 CJ5 ???

Would the axles , T18a tranny and transfer case
Swap into a stock 79 CJ5 what I'm asking is without any severe modifications I want to keep
CJ safe and streetable I need a motor and found a 78 j20 with good motor and 4 speed tranny and 3:73 gears with a Dana 60 rear and Dana 44 front
Just don't know the jeep axles just but

Little more info I can move spring hangers and perches if needed just didn't know if these jeep axles under a j20 are two wide for the CJ5 but for a little more money than I was already gonna spend for motor I can get this jeep truck and use motor and drive train to upgrade from 3 speed to 4 speed and get 3:73 gears and a wider stance
Plus Dana 60 is Suppost to be a posi trac
Not looking for a how to just is this a common swap and can I still send the old lady to get groceries in the CJ5 when its done and not worry about it being safe
Any thoughts and info would be great
Thanks

If the J-truck has/had a V8 the input shaft of the transmission is going to be way too long for you to use it. The shifter would end up between the seats.

And the axles are going to be much wider than the stock CJ axles.

Ok thanks guys that's the info I'm looking for

So even tho my cj5 was factory with a 304 the tranny from jeep truck is pushed back future than the cj5 three speed ??

I was wondering about the axles but will probily pass on the j20 setup and just go with rebuilt motor and keep my stock axles and tranny for now

Thats right. The T18 used in the Jeep trucks and wagons had a much longer input shaft and bellhousing. So it can't be used in a CJ without swapping the input shaft.
