1976 CJ7 Dash Lights

I cannot seem to find a thread with the same problem.

1976 CJ7

There are dash lights in 4 places, Speedometer, steering column (it's an automatic), battery power, oil.

-Steering column and oil gauge work
-Signals in speedo work
-General lighting of speedo does not work
-Battery power does not work

Seems like it could be bulbs or ground.

I think you answered your own question. Check the ground. If its good, replace the bulbs. If your gas and temp. gauges work then the speedo housing is grounded properly. in that case, the speedometer lights probably just need replacing. I don't recall how the volt gauge grounds so check both the ground and bulbs on that one.

I just had a similar problem (see thread for more detail).. May not be the same thing, but my problem was fixed by buying a new light switch dimmer. It cost $15 at Advance auto parts.

Best of luck!!

Thank you for your responses.

It turned out to be bad bulbs and, believe it or not, one of the socket was actually missing a bulb.
