prestolite>duraspark swap

Well I have decided after this weekend to just swap over my 76 304 prestolite setup to the duraspark/HEI module swap. I am going to start getting the parts needed. I have read all the info and I am pretty sure I got it straight, but will have questions as I go along.
First question : Do I need to take my distributor gear off my prestolite distributor and install on the new duraspark distributor ( 1979 304 amc ) ?
